Police Reports

The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Feb. 15 and 22.

Feb. 15

9:28 a.m.: A male student reported being punched in the face during a physical altercation involving another male student on Feb. 13 while on the Bronc Trail on the Edinburg campus. The victim’s injuries consisted of minor swelling to the lip area. The victim does not want to file criminal charges.

5 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the Science Building on the Edinburg campus in reference to a female student feeling ill. Emergency medical services transported the student to the hospital for further medical evaluation.

6:53 p.m.: A female student reported being assaulted by another female student while they were in the Texas Southmost College Recreation Center in Brownsville. The victim stated the female threw a beverage in her face during a disagreement. The Brownsville Police Department arrived on scene and investigated the alleged assault. A report was filed by UTRGV police for information purposes.

Feb. 16

10:10 p.m.: A female student reported feeling ill and complaining of abdominal pain while attending an event in the Student Union on the Edinburg campus. Emergency medical services transported the student to the hospital for further evaluation.

Feb. 17

12:28 a.m.: Officers observed a boy hiding behind a vehicle on the 1000 block of West Schunior Street in Edinburg. Upon contact, officers determined the boy, 13, had left his residence without permission. The Edinburg Police Department was contacted and confirmed the boy was reported as a runaway. An Edinburg officer took the boy into custody.

3:27 a.m.: An officer responded to the Village Apartments on the Edinburg campus in reference to a male student experiencing a seizure. Emergency medical services transported the student to the hospital for further care.

7:09 a.m.: A student reported being assaulted by his ex-girlfriend, who is also a student, the night before at the University Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. The student said his ex-girlfriend grabbed onto him in an effort to stop him from leaving the area and he found the physical contact offensive. 

8:50 a.m.: An officer observed a student vomiting outside the University Library on the Edinburg campus. The student declined emergency medical services and left the area on his own.

Feb. 20

8:51 a.m.: A student reported seeing a man arguing with UTRGV Parking and Transportation Services staff and staring at her, making her uncomfortable at the Harlingen campus bus stop. The man left the location prior to the officer’s arrival.

12:17 p.m.: A female employee found a paper note with concerning drawings in the University Library on the Edinburg campus. Further investigation revealed the drawings did not meet the elements of a crime.

6:43 p.m.: A student drove over a curb, damaging her tires, in Lot E-25 on the Edinburg campus.

Feb. 21

1:22 p.m.: Library staff requested a non-affiliated man be removed from the University Library on the Brownsville campus. A criminal trespass warning was issued to the man, and he left the area without incident.

2:49 p.m.: U.S. Border Patrol investigators requested assistance from the UTRGV Police Department units to secure the perimeter of a residence located across from Lot E-25 on the Edinburg campus that was the subject of an investigation. UTRGV officers located two non-affiliated subjects who were found on campus and were subsequently detained by the U.S. Border Patrol. A total of nine people who entered the country illegally were located at the residence and taken into custody by the U.S. Border Patrol. 

4:51 p.m.:  A UTRGV bus damaged a towing vehicle and trailer on the Edinburg campus while being loaded to be taken for service. 

Feb. 22

10:35 a.m.: A student reported finding a spent shotgun shell in Lot E-9 on the Edinburg campus.
