The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Aug. 8 and 14.
Aug. 8
8:46 a.m.: A non-affiliated woman reported injuring her ankle in Performing Arts Complex A on the Edinburg campus. The woman declined emergency medical services and advised that a family member would take her to the clinic for further medical evaluations.
11:25 a.m.: A UTRGV employee on the Edinburg campus reported losing a university key off campus.
2:01 p.m.: A UTRGV employee on the Edinburg campus reported receiving multiple concerning emails from a male student that were disrespectful and contained profanity. After further investigation, University Police determined that no crime had occurred. The case is under review.
3:13 p.m.: A UTRGV employee on the Edinburg campus reported losing three university keys in the Robert C. Vackar College of Business and Entrepreneurship building.
3:28 p.m.: A UTRGV employee reported losing seven university keys on the Edinburg campus.
9:21 p.m.: University police were dispatched to the Village Apartments on the Edinburg campus in reference to a suspicious man in the courtyard. Officers determined that the man was waiting for his girlfriend, who is a student that resides at the location.
Aug. 9
7:11 a.m.: University police responded to the Baseball Stadium on the Edinburg campus in reference to a non-affiliated man sleeping on a bench. The man was found to be intoxicated and arrested on a charge of public intoxication. He was issued a criminal trespass warning and was booked into the Edinburg Municipal Jail.
8:09 a.m.: A UTRGV employee reported losing a university key ring containing eight keys in Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus.
8:52 a.m.: University police officers and the Edinburg Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm in the Learning Center on the Edinburg campus. After investigating the building, officers determined that the alarm was triggered by a dirty smoke detector. The Fire Department deemed the building safe for re-entry.
9:52 a.m.: A non-affiliated woman reported injuring both of her knees after falling on the sidewalk near the Community Engagement Student Success building on the Edinburg campus. Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported the woman to the hospital for further treatment.
9:55 a.m.: A student waved down a University Police officer on the Edinburg campus and reported she was assaulted by her non-affiliated boyfriend in an off-campus apartment. The Edinburg Police Department arrived and took over the investigation. The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity was notified.
1:07 p.m.: A student on the Brownsville campus reported receiving multiple calls on his cellphone from various phone numbers that he found annoying and alarming. The case is under investigation.
1:14 p.m.: University police responded to a small electrical fire at the thermal plant on the Brownsville campus, which was put out by employees. The Brownsville Fire Department arrived, inspected the building and deemed it safe. The building was not occupied during the incident and the damage was minimal.
7:30 p.m.: A student on the Edinburg campus reported that after completing a practical exam on a mannequin in the Health Affairs East Building, the male professor instructed her to pretend she was doing the procedure again while he took a photograph with his cellphone. The student reported that the interaction made her uncomfortable, and the incident was also reported to the department chair. The case is under review.
Aug. 10
10:03 a.m.: University police responded to Lot E-6 on the Edinburg campus in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male employee and a non-affiliated woman. Officers determined that the non-affiliated woman was having a panic attack and that the male employee was attempting to restrain her to prevent her from injuring herself.
2:33 p.m.: A student reported losing his student identification card in the Medical Education Building on the Edinburg campus.
4:41 p.m.: University police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on the 500 block of North Sugar Road in Edinburg. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer detected an odor of marijuana. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle, and no contraband was found.
8:17 p.m.: A UTRGV employee reported that two university keys were taken from his unattended lanyard by an unknown person in the Health and Physical Education II building on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
10:13 p.m.: A student on the Edinburg campus reported that she observed damage on her vehicle’s door frame. The student stated that she had recently purchased the vehicle and was unaware if the damage was already on the car when she purchased it.
11:48 p.m.: University police observed a man attempting to damage a fence inside an enclosed and restricted construction site near the Liberal Arts Building South on the Edinburg campus. The officer contacted the individual and, upon attempting to identify him, the man fled the scene on foot. The case is under investigation.
Aug. 11
12:19 a.m.: A University police officer observed a group of people running toward a wooded area near the Brownsville campus and notified the U.S. Border Patrol. Upon arrival, Border Patrol agents apprehended two undocumented individuals from Mexico near the thermal plant. The other individuals were not located.
1:17 a.m.: A employee on the Brownsville campus reported that her online gamer group was being harassed online by a non-affiliated man. The employee said she was seeking advice to relay to her gamer group. She also informed officers that she is not a victim of online harassment, and that it was occurring off campus.
11:08 a.m.: A student reported losing her access control card in the Medical Education Building on the Edinburg campus.
Aug. 14
8:41 a.m.: A UTRGV employee reported that two university laptop computers were missing from an unlocked storage cabinet inside an office in the Life and Health Sciences Building on the Brownsville campus. The case is under investigation.
