The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Sept. 12 and 18.
Sept. 12
Midnight: University Police responded to a noise complaint in the Casa Bella apartments on the Brownsville campus. Officers made contact with the residents but did not notice any loud noise. No similar reports occurred that night.
7:19 a.m.: A university subcontractor reported that unauthorized material was dumped into a construction dumpster in Lot E-19 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
9:43 a.m.: A student reported a traffic collision that occurred off campus involving a university vehicle. A report was filed with the Brownsville Police Department.
2:53 p.m.: University Police responded to a non-affiliated man and woman arguing in the Marialice Shary Shivers building on the Edinburg campus. Officers made contact with both parties and determined that no crime occurred. The two individuals left campus without further incident.
5:20 p.m.: University Police responded to a student sitting on top of a walkway covering on the second floor of the Mathematics & General Classroom building on the Edinburg campus. Upon contact with UTRGV officers, the student stated he was having lunch and taking photos. Officers informed the student to refrain from climbing onto the covered walkway for safety reasons.
Sept. 13
7:45 a.m.: A UTRGV employee reported damage to a classroom door handle inside Sabal Hall on the Brownsville campus. The case is under investigation.
10:41 a.m.: A subcontractor reported finding a shattered window in the Psychology Clinic building on the Edinburg campus. Upon inspecting the window, he sustained a small cut to his finger. A work order was placed for repairs.
11:04 a.m.: An officer responded to a minor traffic collision involving two vehicles in Lot E-21 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
2:17 p.m.: A student reported finding damage to her vehicle on Sept. 12 while it was parked in Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
2:24 p.m.: University Police conducted a welfare check on a student at the Casa Bella apartments on the Brownsville campus. Officers confirmed the student’s well-being. The student stated he was stressed due to work and school. University Police informed the student of the counseling services UTRGV offers.
3:10 p.m.: A non-affiliated woman reported observing a man who appeared to be in distress walking barefoot from the Edinburg campus to a local convenience store. Officers checked the surrounding areas but were unable to locate the man.
3:23 p.m.: A non-affiliated male driver reported that another vehicle cut him off on the roadway off campus, causing him to collide with the side curb. The Edinburg Police Department is investigating the incident.
3:40 p.m.: A UTRGV employee reported that her non-affiliated boyfriend was being stalked off campus. The employee stated that a report has been filed with the Laredo Police Department.
4:49 p.m.: A student reported he left his Apple AirPods in Sabal Hall on the Brownsville campus. When he returned, they were missing. The case is under investigation.
7:17 p.m.: A student reported finding damage to his vehicle while it was parked in Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus. The case is under investigation.
7:18 p.m.: A student reported that the rear passenger window of her vehicle was shattered while it was parked in Lot E-41 on the Edinburg campus.
8:58 p.m.: University Police observed three juveniles jump the fence into Casa Bella and run through the parking lot. Upon searching for the juveniles, University Police observed them exit the parking lot by jumping over a fence. Officers were unable to locate the three individuals.
Sept. 14
1:52 a.m.: University Police responded to an active burglar alarm in the Student Services building on the Edinburg campus. The area was found undisturbed.
7:47 a.m.: A UTRGV employee reported shattering a window of a driving vehicle while cutting grass in Lot E-22 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
1:26 p.m.: A student reported swallowing a piece of plastic while drinking from a water bottle on the Edinburg campus.
3:14 p.m.: A student reported a verbal dispute between two students and two unknown men in the Student Union on the Brownsville campus. Vulgar language was used toward the student during the verbal dispute. The case is under investigation.
4:48 p.m.: A UTRGV faculty member reported that a student submitted a resume with concerning words. Detectives later made contact with the student who advised it was a misunderstanding.
Sept. 15
12:35 a.m.: An employee reported an unknown person writing with permanent markers on the walls inside of a classroom in Liberal Arts Building South on the Edinburg campus. A work order was submitted to have the wall cleaned. The case is under investigation.
12:54 a.m.: University Police heard what appeared to be someone yelling near Liberal Arts Building South on the Edinburg campus. Officers conducted a perimeter check of the area but were unable to locate anyone in need of help.
1:45 a.m.: University Police assisted the Brownsville Police Department with a single vehicle collision on Expressway 77.
10:59 a.m.: University Police received an anonymous stalking complaint communication via the Campus Shield app. Officers checked the location of occurrence but were not able to locate anyone in need of assistance. The anonymous reporting party advised it would reach out to police later.
3:19 p.m.: A student reported she accidentally left personal electronics Sept. 13 in Performing Arts Complex C on the Edinburg campus. When she returned to look for her property, it was no longer there. The case is under investigation.
4:30 p.m.: A student reported that he fell off his bicycle while attempting to avoid a vehicle Sept. 14 in Lot E-37 on the Edinburg campus. The student sustained injuries as a result of the fall and was transported to a hospital by emergency medical services for further evaluation.
8 p.m.: University Police observed a group of unknown individuals running north of University Boulevard and into the brush area behind the Research Office Building on the Brownsville campus. U.S. Border Patrol was notified and responded to the location. A search of the area was conducted and two juvenile men, both Mexican nationals, were apprehended.
Sept. 16
12:11 a.m.: University Police responded to the brush area east of the Music Science and Learning Center to assist U.S. Border Patrol in the search of five possible immigrants. A search was conducted but the group was not located.
Sept. 17
9:51 a.m.: University Police observed a suspicious man walking on campus. The man was found lying down on the brush area near the Social Work and Occupational Therapy building on the Edinburg campus. University Police determined he had no official business on campus and issued him a criminal trespass warning. A criminal history check revealed the man had a prior entry for assault.
9:56 p.m.: A student reported that an unknown social media user requested sexually explicit photos of him, which he found offensive. When the student refused the request, the user released his picture via social media depicting the student and added sexual content. The case is under investigation.
Sept. 18
1:09 a.m.: University Police assisted U.S. Border Patrol in the search for several possible immigrants who were believed to be inside the construction site in Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus. U.S. Border Patrol located and detained four adult men and one adult woman inside the construction area.
10:54 a.m.: University Police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving two students in Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
12:06 p.m.: University Police responded to a student who had fainted in the Science Building on the Edinburg campus. Emergency medical services later transported the student to the hospital for further evaluation.
12:49 p.m.: A UTRGV employee reported injuring his eye during training in the Academic Support Facilities Complex on the Edinburg campus.
1:41 p.m.: University Police responded to an active fire alarm in Health Affairs Building West on the Edinburg campus. The Edinburg Fire Department arrived on scene and reset the panel. The building was cleared for re-entry.
5:57 p.m.: University Police observed an Edinburg Police Department officer in a foot pursuit with a non-affiliated man. University Police assisted with apprehending the man and placing him under arrest.
8:13 p.m.: A non-affiliated parent reported that she was concerned about the well-being of a student after not hearing from her for some time. The parent later reported that the student was located and confirmed her well-being. 8:59 p.m.: University Police observed a female student who had fallen after feeling lightheaded. The student refused emergency medical services.
