The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Oct. 3 and Oct. 9
Oct. 3
9:09 a.m.: A UTRGV transportation employee reported that a verbal disturbance occurred between him and a student who was trying to enter the bus during a non-boarding time on the Brownsville campus. The student left the area without further incident. University Police determined that no crime occurred.
10:06 a.m.: A UTRGV employee reported that a student keeps leaving his bicycle inside the Clinical Education building in Harlingen after being informed that it is a violation of the university’s Handbook of Operating Procedures Policy No. 10-904. The case is under review.
11:28 a.m.: A student reported that a male student was trying to make unwanted conversation with her in the Education Complex on the Edinburg campus. After further investigation, university police determined that no crime occurred.
12:31 p.m.: A student reported receiving several unwanted calls from her ex-boyfriend while on and off campus. The case is under investigation.
1:15 p.m.: A student reported running into other students on campus with whom he had issues and found it concerning.
1:41 p.m.: A UTRGV employee reported that he found an empty alcohol bottle inside a men’s bathroom stall for the last three days in the Student Union on the Edinburg campus. The case is under review.
Oct. 4
8:52 a.m.: A student reported falling off a powered scooter while riding on the sidewalk at the intersection of West University Boulevard and Ringgold Road in Brownsville. The student sustained minor injuries but declined emergency medical services and chose to seek treatment at Student Health Services.
11:34 a.m.: A faculty member reported a welfare concern for a student who made some concerning comments. The officer spoke with the student’s parents and confirmed that she was well and under medical care.
5:11 p.m.: A student reported finding that the driver’s door keyhole cover of her vehicle had been removed while it was parked in Lot B-2 on the Brownsville campus. The case is under investigation.
Oct. 5
9:04 a.m.: A UTRGV employee reported that an object struck a university vehicle Oct. 4 while driving in Harlingen, causing damage to the rear left quarter panel. No injuries were reported. The report was generated for documentation purposes.
9:13 a.m.: A non-affiliated man reported backing out of a parking space on the Harlingen campus and striking an unattended vehicle parked behind him. No injuries were reported.
10:35 a.m.: An officer was notified of a non-affiliated man who fell on the sidewalk near the Academic & Clinical Research building while visiting the Veteran Affairs Clinic on the Harlingen campus. The man reported he was not injured and declined emergency medical assistance.
2:20 p.m.: A student reported feeling dizzy and lightheaded after working out at the Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. Emergency medical services transported the student to the hospital for further evaluations.
4:05 p.m.: University Police responded to a report of a power transformer sparking near the cooling plant on West Van Week Street on the Edinburg campus. Officers assisted with traffic control until American Electric Power serviced the transformer.
4:36 p.m.: A student reported that her vehicle may have been damaged by a falling tree while it was parked during a rainstorm in Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus. Minor cosmetic damages were observed on the car’s rear bumper.
6:21 p.m.: A student reported finding damage to her vehicle after leaving it parked in Lot E-40 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
10:07 p.m.: University Police assisted the U.S. Border Patrol in the search of four possible migrants who were believed to be inside the construction site of Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus. Officers detained one Mexican national inside the construction site. The Border Patrol located and detained the other three individuals outside the construction site.
Oct. 6
9:14 a.m.: A resident assistant reported that two students informed him of a verbal disturbance that occurred in Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus. University Police reviewed the video footage of the location and determined that no crime occurred.
12:02 p.m.: An officer responded to a suspicious man in the Engineering building on the Edinburg campus. The non-affiliated man was located and found to be disoriented. University Police located a family member who subsequently arrived to take the man home.
1:28 p.m.: A student reported finding damage to his vehicle while it was parked in Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
3:11 p.m.: A UTRGV employee reported finding a scrape on a Facilities work van on the Edinburg campus. The employee stated he did not know when or how the damage had occurred.
5:10 p.m.: A student reported that a suspicious man driving a vehicle came to a stop just ahead of her while she was walking on the sidewalk along University Boulevard and Ringgold Road in Brownsville. The subject then left the area without making any contact with the student.
8:28 p.m.: A student reported that a male student interrupted a conversation he was having with a female student and made some negative comments about him to the female student. The case is under review.
8:31 p.m.: A man from Venezuela approached a UTRGV police officer in Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus and requested asylum. The U.S. Border Patrol arrived on location and took custody of the man.
Oct. 7
3:42 p.m.: An officer responded to two non-affiliated individuals who were stuck in the elevator of the Interdisciplinary Academic Building on the Brownsville campus. The Brownsville Fire Department arrived on scene and safely extracted both subjects through the elevator’s roof hatch. No injuries were reported.
8:05 p.m.: An officer on foot patrol observed some drawings on a marker board in the Student Academic Center on the Edinburg campus. Photos of the drawings were taken, and the drawings were removed.
8:32 p.m.: An officer observed that the second-floor elevator was not functioning properly in the Student Union on the Edinburg campus. University Police shut down the elevator and a work order was submitted for repairs.
Oct. 8
10:38 a.m.: A UTRGV police officer assisted U.S. Border Patrol Agents in checking the soccer field on the Brownsville campus for two men who had illegally crossed the border and were last seen in the area. The area was checked but the subjects were not located.
2:06 p.m.: A UTRGV employee reported injuring his hand while working at the Soccer and Track & Field Complex on the Edinburg campus. The employee was taken to the hospital for further evaluation by another employee.
6:15 p.m.: An officer responded to a student who wanted to report accidental damage to her vehicle’s rear windshield in Lot E-36 on the Edinburg campus.
Oct. 9
9:12 a.m.: A supervisor reported a concern over an employee who missed work for a week. An officer spoke with the employee and confirmed her well-being. The employee said she would contact her supervisor.
4:07 p.m.: A student reported finding damage to her vehicle after leaving it parked in Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
