The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Oct. 31 and Nov. 6.
Oct.31
11:08 a.m.: A student reported that another student made her feel uncomfortable after she had observed him staring at her over the last few days around the Mathematics & Science Academy building on the Edinburg campus. After further investigation, University Police determined no crime occurred.
11:35 a.m.: An employee reported finding an unattended syringe inside the second-floor bathroom of the Education Complex on the Edinburg campus. An officer took custody of the syringe and properly disposed of it.
2:35 p.m.: A student reported losing her USB flash drive in Liberal Arts Building South on the Edinburg campus.
4:17 p.m.: An employee reported having a verbal dispute with another employee over the use of a workspace Oct. 26 in the Health & Physical Education Complex Fieldhouse on the Edinburg campus. During the dispute, the other employee stood in front of her and raised his voice, making her uncomfortable. University Police determined no crime occurred.
5:05 p.m.: A student reported striking a stop sign and knocking it down while backing out of a parking space in the parking lot on the Laredo campus. No injuries were reported.
Nov. 1
11:21 a.m.: A student on the Edinburg campus reported being contacted by a student who had been issued a no-contact order by the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity. University Police notified the office. The case is under review.
12:50 p.m.: A student reported someone had stolen her vehicle gas cap while on the Edinburg campus. The student later confirmed the gas cap had been ripped off while she was washing her vehicle at a local car wash.
5:46 p.m.: A contractor reported a water leak in the Interdisciplinary Academic Annex building on the Brownsville campus. The water was shut off and a work order was submitted for repairs.
6:18 p.m.: A student reported someone had damaged her vehicle’s passenger door while it was parked in lot E-38 on the Edinburg campus.
6:40 p.m.: A dual enrollment student reported that another dual enrollment student was making unwelcome verbal contact with her and her friends on the Brownsville campus. The case is under investigation.
11:52 p.m.: An employee reported finding empty beer cans on numerous occasions inside the men’s restroom in Liberal Arts Building South on the Edinburg campus.
Nov. 2
11:13 a.m.: An employee reported colliding with a student cyclist while driving a golf cart on the Edinburg campus. The student claimed he sustained no injuries and left the area.
12:45 p.m.: A student reported she had left her laptop charging overnight in the Education Complex on the Edinburg campus and discovered it missing the following morning. The case is under investigation.
1:04 p.m.: An employee reported that a student customer paid with a counterfeit $5 bill in the Student Union on the Edinburg campus. The bill was seized for further investigation.
1:07 p.m.: An employee reported losing his university-issued radio about a week ago in the Student Services Building on the Edinburg campus.
3:32 p.m.: An employee reported finding damage to a concrete drainage inlet on the southeast side of the circle drive outside Performing Arts Complex A on the Edinburg campus. A work order was submitted for repairs.
Nov. 3
3:28 p.m.: An officer and the Edinburg Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm in the Community Engagement and Student Success building on the Edinburg campus. It was determined the alarm was triggered after a city employee opened a water valve near the building. The building was deemed safe for reentry.
6:21 p.m.: An employee reported her vehicle was damaged while parked in Lot E-44 on the Edinburg campus. University Police reviewed closed-circuit TV cameras and determined the incident did not occur on campus.
9:08 p.m.: An employee reported a gas odor in the Biomedical Research & Health building on the Brownsville campus. Facilities Services inspected the building and determined the odor was from the drainage system in the building.
Nov. 5
4:24 a.m.: An officer and the Edinburg Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm in the Life and Health Sciences building on the Brownsville campus. It was determined the fire panel had been activated due to a flow switch. The building was deemed safe for reentry.
9:44 a.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a violation that occurred off campus and found that the non-affiliated driver had an active warrant out of Cameron County for felony possession of cocaine. The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and took custody of the man.
Nov. 6
8:17 a.m.: A student reported injuring his knee while running on the indoor track in the University Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. Emergency medical services arrived and transported the student to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance for further evaluation.
8:48 a.m.: The concerned mother of a student on the Edinburg campus reported a suspicious man who solicited money from her daughter after she had boarded the same shuttle bus as he. After speaking with the shuttle bus driver, University Police found that the man did not speak with anyone. The case is under review. At 9:29 a.m., University Police received a report of a man who was soliciting money on the Edinburg campus. An officer located the man at 1603 W. University Dr. After further investigation and a criminal background check, it was confirmed the man was related to the case that occurred at 8:48 a.m. that day. The officer issued the man a criminal trespass warning for UTRGV property.
9:27 a.m.: A staff member reported that a non-affiliated man was acting strangely by mumbling to himself and laughing out loud for no reason while riding in the shuttle bus from Weslaco to Brownsville. The case is under review.
11:14 a.m.: An officer responded to a non-affiliated man who was yelling in the University Chapel on the Edinburg campus. The officer escorted the man off the premises.
11:56 a.m.: A student reported being approached by her mother who wanted her to drop the charges against her stepfather for a case filed with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s office for an indecent assault. The case is under review.
1:29 p.m: An officer responded to a disruption involving a non-affiliated patient in the Behavioral Health Clinic in Harlingen. The patient agreed to be transported to the Valley Baptist Medical Center by emergency medical services for further evaluation.
2:01 p.m.: An officer responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision on the 1200 block of Van Week Street in Edinburg. Minor injuries were reported.
5:58 p.m.: A student reported observing several students vaping during specific hours in the Student Union Game Room on the Edinburg campus. University Police informed the student they would conduct extra patrol and asked her to report the activity if she witnesses it again.
