The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Nov. 7 and 12.
Nov. 7
8:16 a.m.: An employee reported finding the door to her co-worker’s office open in the Science Complex on the Edinburg campus. A police officer contacted the employee to whom the office belonged and confirmed nothing was stolen.
12:04 p.m.: A student reported suffering an asthma attack in the University Library on the Edinburg campus. Emergency medical services arrived and transported the student to the Edinburg Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
2:10 p.m.: An employee reported finding an empty beer can inside a trash can while cleaning the men’s restroom in the Student Academic Center on the Edinburg campus. The case is under review.
5:28 p.m.: A student reported that an unknown man made her uncomfortable after he approached her and requested her social media profile and phone number while in the University Library on the Edinburg campus. She denied his request and the man moved on to other women in the library, asking for the same information. The case is under review.
Nov. 8
10:40 a.m.: A student reported finding damage to his vehicle while it was parked in Lot E-26 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
11:16 a.m.: A student reported being involved in a one-vehicle collision with a handicap sign pole after accidentally pressing the accelerator pedal in Lot E-7 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
11:30 a.m.: An officer responded to a non-affiliated man who was experiencing a mental-health crisis in the Behavioral Health Clinic in Harlingen. The man was detained on an emergency detention and transported to Harlingen Medical Center for further evaluation.
2:15 p.m.: University Police were notified of a student on the Edinburg campus who had sent concerning emails to a staff member. An officer located and interviewed the student and determined she was not a threat to herself or others.
3:41 p.m.: An officer assisted the Edinburg Police Department in the investigation of an auto-pedestrian traffic collision that occurred near the Edinburg campus. The pedestrian, who is a student, sustained injuries and was transported to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance for further medical treatment.
5:25 p.m.: An officer heard an alarm in the mechanical room in the Biomedical Research Building on the Brownsville campus. University Police determined there was a fault alert on the fire panel and submitted a work order to the Facilities department for repairs.
10:04 p.m.: An employee reported losing his wallet, which contained his assigned proximity card and other personal items, in the Academic Support Facilities building. University Police informed the Information Technology department to deactivate his card.
11:42 a.m.: An employee on the Edinburg campus reported finding damage to the front-right tire of a vehicle she had used for work on Nov. 7. University Police reviewed the closed-circuit TV cameras and determined the damage did not occur on campus.
Nov. 9
8:05 a.m.: An employee reported finding damage to his vehicle while it was parked in Lot E-19 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
4:47 p.m.: An officer responded to a disturbance between an employee and a non-affiliated man at the bus stop near Sabal Hall on the Brownsville campus. University Police determined no crime occurred and the man was allowed to board the bus.
Nov. 10
12:26 a.m.: An employee reported finding damage to a computer desk inside one of the private rooms in Performing Arts Complex C on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
8:44 a.m.: A parent reported she was unable to reach her son since the night of Nov. 9. An officer contacted the student and determined he was fine and staying with a friend. The student said he had already spoken with his mother.
9:06 a.m.: An officer observed a man who appeared to be ill in Lot B-3 on the Brownsville campus. Emergency medical services arrived on scene and transported the employee to the hospital for further medical evaluation.
9:28 a.m.: An employee reported that a folding wagon was missing from an office in the Mary Alice Shary Shivers building on the Edinburg campus. University Police found no signs of forced entry at the location. The case is under investigation.
9:41 a.m.: An officer contacted a non-affiliated man who appeared disoriented at the entrance of the Institute of Neuroscience in Harlingen. It was determined the man was reported as a welfare concern by the Harlingen Police Department. A Harlingen police officer arrived and released the man to a family member.
1:37 p.m.: An employee reported damage to her vehicle’s window. It was determined that an unidentified object had struck the window when a non-affiliated landscaping crew was cutting the grass in the vicinity.
10:04 p.m.: A student reported being awakened after hearing yelling between two other students in the hallway of Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus. University Police spoke with the involved parties and determined no crime occurred. The resident assistant advised they would look at the incident administratively.
Nov. 11
3:11 a.m.: An officer observed a sleeping student in a parked car in the Casa Bella apartments parking lot on the Brownsville campus. While checking on the student, the officer observed a glass mason jar containing a green leafy substance in the vehicle’s passenger seat. The officer woke the student up and confiscated the contraband. The contents were tested for marijuana and revealed a positive result. The officer issued the student a court appearance citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.
11:18 a.m.: A student reported a water leak in the ceiling of her dorm room at the Casa Bella apartments on the Brownsville campus. A resident assistant was informed and no injuries were reported.
1:31 p.m.: An employee reported a water leak at the Health & Physical Education Fieldhouse, which was temporarily fixed to prevent further damage.
Nov. 12
8:13 a.m.: University Police received a Maxient report of a student who had made concerning comments. An officer on the Brownsville campus contacted the student and determined he was not a danger to himself or others.
4:39 p.m.: The Edinburg Police Department reported that it received a call from an unknown person who was cut off before providing any information. The call was determined to be made near Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus. A UTRGV officer checked the parking lot and the surrounding area but found no suspicious activity or person.
