The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Jan. 30 and Feb. 5.
Jan. 30
1:19 a.m.: An officer from the Edinburg Police Department requested assistance in the search of Lot E-7 on the Edinburg campus after hearing a woman scream. A University Police officer assisted with checking the surrounding areas of campus but did not find anyone in distress.
9:59 a.m.: A student reported an unknown man was following her as she walked from the bus stop toward the University Library on the Edinburg campus. She expressed concern regarding her safety and entered a womenโs bathroom to avoid contact with the man. The case is under investigation.
10:38 a.m.: Officers spoke with a non-affiliated man who was asking for money in Lot E-40 on the Edinburg campus. The man was identified and issued a criminal trespass warning for all UTRGV properties.
11:46 a.m.: A Parking and Transportation Services employee reported finding a fraudulent parking permit on a vehicle parked in Lot E-12 on the Edinburg campus. The employee placed a wheel lock on the vehicle until the student arrived to pay the fine. The permit was turned over to University Police and Parking and Transportation Services issued a citation for the violation.
7:05 p.m.: University Police and the Edinburg Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm in the Community Engagement & Student Success Building on the Edinburg campus. The building was cleared for reentry.
Jan. 31
1:09 p.m.: Officers responded to an active fire alarm in the Student Services Building on the Edinburg campus. The Edinburg Fire Department responded to the location and determined the alarm was triggered by dust on smoke detectors. The building was cleared for reentry.
3:15 p.m.: A student reported that a water bottle and some money was stolen from his backpack, which he had left under a bench at the University Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
9:51 p.m.: University Police received a tip via the UTRGV 911 portal app of a woman who appeared to be frightened as she walked away from a vehicle near Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus. Officers checked the area, but no one in need of assistance was located. The person who reported the case was contacted, but they did not have any additional information on the unknown woman.
Feb. 2
2:37 p.m. An employee reported receiving a note from a non-affiliated man after she advised him not to contact her. The case is under investigation.
8:36 p.m.: A student on the Edinburg campus reported she was injured when another woman who was riding a scooter on an off-campus sidewalk ran into her. The student stated she exchanged Instagram accounts with the rider and they both left the area. The student declined emergency medical services.
Feb. 3
8:55 a.m.: An officer observed several flyers of a missing person in the Student Academic Center on the Edinburg campus. The McAllen Police Department was contacted, and it was determined that the person had been located Dec. 8.
5:34 p.m.: A non-affiliated woman waved down an officer to report a possible disturbance in a local store in Edinburg. Upon checking the area, nobody involved in a disturbance was located.
Feb. 5
1:30 p.m.: An employee reported a confused woman in the lobby of the Clinical Education building in Harlingen. The officer spoke with the woman and helped her contact her daughter, who arrived and took her home.
9:31 p.m.: A student reported that his laptop was stolen from a bench while he was playing basketball at the University Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
