The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between March 19 and 25.
March 19
12:03 p.m.: Officers responded to a disturbance caused by a patient who made threats toward the employees in the Multispecialty Clinic on the Harlingen campus before leaving the location. As a result, UTRGV officers, a Harlingen Police officer and a mental health screener went to the patient’s residence to investigate. After a thorough investigation, the patient was arrested on a terroristic threat charge. The case is under investigation.
March 20
8:48 a.m.: A non-affiliated woman reported an unknown man approached her on different dates and times attempting to make conversation with her. The woman reported it occurred on and off campus and believes she is being followed by the man. The case is under investigation.
10:09 a.m.: Four employees reported a student was causing a disturbance and being disorderly by using vulgar language toward them at the University Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. The student had already left the area but was located on campus and issued a criminal trespass warning at the request of the University Recreation Center assistant director.
2:21 p.m.: A student reported that her former employer refused to pay her $1,500 as agreed on a contract between them. The case is under investigation.
4:52 p.m.: Officers responded to a man screaming at employees in the UTRGV Baseball Stadium on the Edinburg campus. Officers spoke with the man, who had an intellectual developmental disability. After confirming no crime occurred, the officers transported the man to his residence and left him under the care of a family member.
March 21
2:15 a.m.: An officer responded to an active fire alarm in the Student Union on the Brownsville campus. An officer and the Brownsville Fire Department checked the building and deemed it safe for reentry.
1:28 p.m.: An employee from Parking and Transportation Services reported a fictitious permit found in a vehicle near the Academic Support Facility on the Edinburg campus. Officers spoke with the student who admitted creating the permit after misplacing the original. Parking and Transportation Services refused to file charges.
2:59 p.m.: Officers responded to a report of a criminal trespass warning violation by a student in the University Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. The warning had been issued to the student the day before. Upon arrival, the student had already left the area. Officers then verified the violation through closed-circuit TV footage and later found the student at an off-campus location. The student was placed under arrest for criminal trespass charges and booked into the Edinburg Municipal Jail.
5 p.m.: An employee from Parking and Transportation Services reported a fictitious permit found in a vehicle. An officer met with the student who stated he copied another employee’s permit. Parking and Transportation Services refused to file charges.
March 25
8:49 a.m.: An employee on the Brownsville campus reported his vehicle was stolen from his residence on March 17 with his staff ID and issued proximity card inside his vehicle. A theft report was filed with the Pharr Police Department.
11:22 a.m.: A student filed an offense report with the Brownsville Police Department, which then reported that her ex-boyfriend was on campus looking for her. Officers immediately began searching the area. Shortly after, the student arrived at the University Police department to report that the incident happened earlier. The case is under investigation.
2:20 p.m.: An employee reported the theft of a university vehicle license plate that occurred in parking Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus. The case is under investigation.
9:34 p.m.: An officer responded to a suspicious man in the UTRGV Psychology Clinic in Edinburg. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the man, issued him a criminal trespass warning and escorted him off the property.
