The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between April 3 and 15.
April 3
9:57 a.m.: An officer met with a UTRGV Parking and Transportation Services employee who reported that two VOLT car tires were missing from the carport located near Vaquero Plaza on the Brownsville campus. The case is under investigation.
April 5
8:25 a.m.: A student reported an unknown person entered her vehicle in Lot E-27 on the Edinburg campus and stole her parking permit. The case is under investigation.
10:27 p.m.: A student on the Brownsville campus expressed his worry over a disagreement he had with a female student who he believed he was dating. At 12:31 a.m. April 6, an officer met with the female student who reported she was assaulted by the male student she was associating with. The case is under investigation.
April 6
10:56 a.m.: An officer responded to an alarm in the Education Complex on the Edinburg campus. Upon arrival, University Police determined a child had accidentally pulled the fire alarm lever and broken it off. Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management arrived to assess the damage.
April 7
5:43 a.m.: An officer received notification from the Edinburg Police Department stating they were actively searching for armed suspects who had committed an aggravated assault near campus and were possibly in the area. University Police officers assisted with the search and perimeter security. Due to the nature of the situation, and proximity to campus, an Emergency Notification was generated and sent to the UTRGV community. Shortly after, the Edinburg Police Department apprehended the suspects at their residence near campus.
April 8
4:53 p.m.: An employee reported three students were experiencing headaches due to an odor of gas in Health Affairs Building West on the Edinburg campus. Officers spoke with the students and confirmed their well-being. The students declined emergency medical services. Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management and Facilities employees arrived on scene to investigate and then deemed the building safe for reentry.
7:21 p.m.: A student reported she was approached by a non-affiliated man on the Bronc Trail on the Edinburg campus who was seeking signatures for a petition. The student stated the man became upset when she advised she was not interested. After further investigation, no criminal elements were found.
April 9
12:13 p.m.: An officer met with a non-affiliated man who was requesting signatures from students and faculty for political purposes on the Bronc Trail on the Edinburg campus. The officer asked the man to refrain from soliciting signatures since he did not have permission from the university. The man left the location without further incident.
11:29 p.m.: Two students waved down a University Police officer in Lot E-31 regarding a suspicious man who they believed was following them on the Edinburg campus. The officer escorted the students to their apartment and the surrounding areas were checked but the man was not located.
April 11
3:57 p.m.: A non-affiliated individual reported his laptop was stolen from the Student Union PlainsCapital Bank Theater on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
April 12
8:45 a.m.: An officer observed a student using an electric scooter on the Bronc Trail on the Edinburg campus. The officer spoke with him and informed him of the UTRGV policy regarding the use of such vehicles in prohibited areas.
April 15
7:52 a.m.: An officer responded to an active fire alarm in the Dining and Ballroom Complex on the Edinburg campus. No signs of smoke or fire were found. It was determined dust from construction in the building triggered the smoke detector.
11:24 a.m.: An employee reported a water pipe broke within the wall in the Medical Education Building on the Edinburg campus. The broken water pipe caused water to leak into their office, causing damage to the carpet and several student records stored inside.
7:43 p.m.: A student reported receiving unwanted messages and videos via Instagram from a male student. The case is under investigation.
