The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between April 16 and 23.
April 16
11:24 a.m.: An employee reported an unknown man stopped by her office around a week ago and asked if she could escort him to the IT Services Department. She is now concerned because a co-worker informed her the same man came by the office while she was out and asked about her. The case is under investigation.
5:12 p.m.: A student reported that someone possibly poured a substance into her water bottle while it was left unattended in the Interdisciplinary Engineering & Academic Building on the Edinburg campus. Police investigated and found no criminal elements.
April 17
1:49 p.m.: A faculty member reported they had received an anonymous tip that two early college high school students were smoking an illegal narcotic in the men’s restroom in the Interdisciplinary Engineering & Academic Building on the Edinburg campus. Faculty determined no illegal narcotics were in the students’ possession. The officer spoke with the students and determined they did not appear to be under the influence of any substance.
3:23 p.m.: A student reported a male student was possibly following her around the Edinburg campus, causing her concern. The case is under investigation.
April 18
3:28 p.m.: A non-affiliated woman reported a non-affiliated man had pushed her with both hands during an event in Performing Arts Complex A on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
6:03 p.m.: An officer responded to an active fire alarm in the Health and Physical Education Complex on the Edinburg campus. It was determined the fire alarm was being tested by a construction company that had not notified University Police.
April 20
3:28 p.m.: Officers responded to a report of an alleged assault at the University Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. Officers spoke with the individuals involved. After further investigation, it was found that two separate assaults had occurred, both involving students. The person responsible was taken into custody and transported to Edinburg City Jail for booking.
April 22
12:54 a.m.: A resident assistant from Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus reported that a suspicious man was seen using the women’s restroom. The resident assistant stopped the man, identified him as a student and let him leave. However, the resident assistant later received reports from students that they had seen the same individual around a few times, which raised concerns. The case is under investigation.
10:04 a.m.: Officers responded to the Interdisciplinary Academic Building on the Brownsville campus regarding a non-affiliated man who was soliciting nearby. Officers spoke with the man, identified him and advised that soliciting was not permitted on campus. The man left the area without incident.
11:59 a.m.: An employee reported finding a bag containing a vape pen suspected of having THC outside of the International Trade and Technology Building on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
11:09 p.m.: Two students reported hearing loud banging outside their dorm in Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus. Upon arrival, officers checked the area but were unable to locate anyone.
April 23
5:41 a.m.: A student reported she was physically assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, who is also a student, in her dorm on April 7. She reported the incident after the ex-boyfriend caused a disturbance the night of April 22 at her dorm on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
9:29 a.m.: A student reported his bicycle was stolen from a bike rack behind the Student Services Building on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
5:22 p.m.: An officer responded to a minor two-vehicle collision involving a student and a non-affiliated individual in Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
