The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Oct. 5 and 6.
Oct. 5
2 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to Lot B6 in reference to a UTRGV vehicle striking a light post. The staff member involved reported no injuries, only minor property damage.
2:03 p.m.: A staff member reported that her vehicle was shot with a paintball gun in Lot B1. The case is under investigation.
4:04 p.m.: Officers responded to a welfare concern at the Village Apartments on the Edinburg campus. Roommates at the location were worried about a fellow roommate due to a prior crisis and her previous social media post. The officer made contact with the student and found her asleep in the apartment. She showed no signs of injury and stated that she was fine. She explained that the post on social media was song lyrics that she liked. The officer conducted a room search with consent. Non-prescribed codeine and amphetamine pills, both under 1 gram, were found in a small envelope in her room. The incident was referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for further review. The case is under investigation.
9:10 p.m.: A student reported being involved in a verbal argument with her ex-boyfriend, who is a current student, near the Science Building on the Edinburg campus. She also reported that he touched her inappropriately without her consent in Donna. She was referred to the Donna Police Department and was also provided with on-campus resources. The case was forwarded to Student Rights and Responsibilities and the Title IX coordinator for further review.
Oct. 6
10:39 a.m.: A staff member reported a 2-year-old child had lost his balance and fell, hitting his head on concrete near the playground at the Child Development Center on the Edinburg campus. The child suffered a small laceration to the back of his head. His father took him to seek medical attention.
4:34 p.m.: A staff member reported receiving unwanted emails on her work email at the University Center on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
5:20 p.m.: A student reported that another student had threatened her with a knife at their Edinburg campus apartment in May. The student with the knife was threatening to harm herself and then turned the knife and approached the reporting party in a manner that made her fear for her life and safety. The other students in the apartment became involved and were able to calm the student enough to make her put the knife away. The reporting party said that she had not initially reported the incident in fear of retaliation from the suspect. The incident was forwarded to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities for further review.
