4:55 p.m.: A student on the Edinburg campus filed a report with an officer regarding a teaching assistant making an age-related comment that she assumed was directed toward her.
Oct. 9
3:17 p.m.: Officers were dispatched in reference to an assault by contact involving two students in Liberal Arts Building South on the Edinburg campus. The assault occurred when one student struck the other student’s forearm with an open hand, which caused her to spill her drink. No injuries were reported and criminal charges were not filed. The case was referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities.
9:34 p.m.: An officer encountered two non-affiliated, intoxicated individuals in an off-campus gas station in Edinburg. Upon further investigation, the officer confirmed both individuals had smoked marijuana. The suspects were issued a court appearance citation and released at the scene to a responsible adult.
Oct. 10
1:51 p.m.: UTRGV officers, the Brownsville Fire Department and emergency medical services were dispatched to a location in reference to a student having trouble breathing and complaining of chest pain. She declined to be transported by emergency medical services and signed a refusal of medical services form.
8:45 p.m.: A student reported she was sent a revealing photo of herself from an unknown person via Twitter while she was at her residence in Weslaco. The student wanted to notify the police department of the incident.
Oct. 11
11:23 a.m.: Officers were dispatched in reference to a staff member seeing a student exposing his genitals to a female student inside a study room in the University Library on the Edinburg campus. Both students were identified and released at the location due to no criminal charges being filed. The case was referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities.
4:56 p.m.: Officers were dispatched in reference to a report of a fight in progress in Sabal Hall on the Brownsville campus. Further investigation revealed that both men are current students, and minor injuries were observed on one of the students. The case was referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for administrative review due to no criminal charges being filed.
Oct. 12
2:21 p.m.: A Bursar’s Office employee on the Brownsville campus reported that a non-affiliated man attempted to pay his daughter’s tuition with six counterfeit U.S. hundred-dollar bills. The case is under investigation.
Oct. 13
3:29 p.m.: An officer responded to Lot E39 on the Edinburg campus in regard to damage done to a parked, unattended vehicle. On arrival, the officer observed damage to the rear passenger side window and door. The damage appeared to be done by a BB gun. A silver BB gun was found on the ground next to the vehicle. The case is under investigation.
