Oct. 22
1:49 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a minor traffic collision involving two university vehicles in the Physical Plant Compound on the Edinburg campus. One of the vehicles involved was a UTRGV bus, which had no passengers, and the other a UTRGV pickup truck. The driver of the bus backed into the truck, and the vehicles sustained minor damage.
Oct. 23
2:09 p.m.: A student and a staff member reported being involved in a minor traffic collision in Lot E16 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
5:54 p.m.: A student and a non-affiliated man reported being involved in a minor traffic collision in Lot E4 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
Oct. 24
9:55 a.m.: A staff member reported losing his wallet and its contents somewhere on the UTRGV Brownsville campus or Texas Southmost College campus.
8:32 p.m.: A non-affiliated woman was stopped for a traffic violation in Lot E39 on the Edinburg campus. Her records revealed she had an active arrest warrant from the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office for theft of service. She was arrested and later booked into the Hidalgo County Jail and is awaiting extradition. Her vehicle and children were released to a family member on the scene. The woman was also issued a traffic citation for the original traffic violation.
8:56 p.m.: A student reported feeling lightheaded and that he injured his right leg hamstring playing limbo with other students in the Student Academic Center on the Edinburg campus.
Oct. 25
2:25 p.m.: A student reported that her vehicle was struck while it was parked unattended in Lot E8 on the Edinburg campus. The vehicle sustained visible damage.
2:42 p.m.: Officers and the Edinburg Fire Department responded to the Academic Services Building in reference to an active fire alarm on the Edinburg campus. A bag of burnt popcorn triggered a smoke detector in the area. The fire department deemed the building safe for re-entry.
Oct. 26
8:02 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the UTRGV Parking and Transportation Office on the Brownsville campus in reference to an unauthorized wheel lock removal. A staff member reported that on Oct. 25 a wheel lock was placed on a vehicle for having outstanding citations. The staff member said he located the wheel lock on Oct. 26 in the bushes of Lot B1. The vehicle was gone, and the wheel lock was inspected and found to be in working condition.
Oct. 29
4:10 a.m.: A non-affiliated man waved down an officer and stated that he fell asleep and woke up after the University Library on the Edinburg campus was closed. He admitted he remained in the Library after waking up, knowing that it was closed. The man took a book that was not checked out to him, and left the library. The book was secured by the officer for safekeeping until it can be released to library staff. The man was later issued a criminal trespass warning for UTRGV properties.
