April 1
1:39 p.m.: During a routine traffic stop, an officer requested a UTRGV K9 officer to assist with a search in Lot E-37 on the Edinburg campus. The smell of narcotics caused the K9 to signal an alert, but no contraband was found.
1:53 p.m.: A student claiming to be under the influence of marijuana caused problems at the University Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. He displayed signs of intoxication and alcohol was detected on his breath. He was placed under arrest on charges of public intoxication, and transported to the Edinburg City Jail.
3:03 p.m.: A faculty member reported losing two university keys during an office move last October at the Robert C. Vackar Coolege of Business and Entrepreneurship Building on the Edinburg campus.
3:07 p.m.: A staff member reported losing his university-issued Motorola two-way radio on March 29 at the Student Services Building on the Edinburg campus.
UPDATE: University Police determined the culprit in connection with a previous case of a stolen backpack and laptop to a man with a long criminal history. Detectives and patrol officers attempted to arrest him on charges of criminal trespass and theft, but the man locked himself in his bedroom, refusing to exit. A detective forced entry into the bedroom and placed him in custody. A family member later returned the stolen laptop, and it was returned to the owner. The suspect was later jailed at the Edinburg City Jail, but claimed to have a medical condition and be suicidal. After being screened, he was cleared for incarceration and returned to jail.
April 2
1:14 p.m.: A former student was contacted off campus and issued a criminal trespass warning in Harlingen.
1:46 p.m.: An unknown man used vulgar language inside the Resaca Plaza building on the Brownsville campus.
April 3
9:21 a.m.: A non-affiliated student from a local school district became ill while performing at the Performing Arts Complex A Building on the Edinburg campus. She claimed to not have eaten in the last 16 hours. Emergency Medical Services transported the student and her teacher to the Edinburg Children’s Hospital. Her parents were notified.
2:19 p.m.: A faculty member had shortness of breath, causing him to fall forward at an entrance to the Liberal Arts Building North on the Edinburg campus. He declined medical services and was taken home by a co-worker.
2:47 p.m.: Three suspicious men attempted to climb the fence by the pool at the University Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. One of the men, identified as a student, claimed to have let the two non-affiliated men into the building to bypass the building’s check-in area. The non-affiliated men were issued criminal trespass warnings for the University Recreation Center and the student was referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities.
7:46 p.m.: A student reported someone let the air out of his vehicle’s front tires in Lot E-28 on the Edinburg campus. Video footage shows a man tampering with the front tires.
7:59 p.m.: The left rear tire of a student’s vehicle was slashed at the Casa Bella Apartments parking lot on the Brownsville campus.
April 4
4:23 p.m.: A university calculator was stolen from the University Library on the Brownsville campus. During inventory, a staff member noticed that one of the calculators was missing, and in its place was a non-university calculator.
4:51 p.m.: A student was approached by an unknown man at the University Library on the Edinburg campus. Initially, they were just speaking but then it continued to unwanted touching of the student’s breasts without her consent. The suspect has been identified by detectives.
