April 5
9 a.m.: A parking permit that was reported lost in the mail in September 2017 was displayed on a vehicle in Lot E-21 on the Edinburg campus. The student who had the permit is not the intended recipient and refused to discuss how he got it.
9:14 a.m.: A student was heard screaming due to her involvement in an argument and physical altercation with her ex-boyfriend in Lincoln Park near the Brownsville campus. A Brownsville police officer arrived and started a criminal investigation.
10:56 a.m.: A student operating machinery suffered a deep laceration on his left index finger in the Engineering Building on the Edinburg campus. A staff member attempted to control the bleeding. The student was transported by emergency medical services to Edinburg Regional
Medical Center.
1:26 p.m.: A student was struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle across the University Recreation crosswalk on the Edinburg campus. She reported pain in her left ankle and pressure in her neck. She was transported to Rio Grande 24 Hour Emergency Care for further evaluation.
5:06 p.m.: A middle school student participating in an event dropped a metal tool box, causing a laceration to her right foot in Lot B-3 on the Brownsville campus. She was treated by Brownsville Emergency Medical Services at the scene but declined medical transport.
April 6
8:30 p.m.: A non-affiliated man was seen looking suspiciously through windows at the Dining and Ballroom Complex on the Edinburg campus. He was identified and issued a criminal trespass warning for all UTRGV properties.
April 8
8:30 a.m.: Three individuals attempted to steal a water tank truck in the construction parking area in Lot E-33 on the Edinburg campus. The vehicle’s windows had all been broken. A timely warning notification was sent in regard to this incident.
9:36 a.m.: A student reported losing his immigration documents somewhere on the Brownsville campus.
12:11 p.m.: A suspicious man was reported to be following several students near the Main Building on the Brownsville campus. Officers identified the man as a student who became verbally abusive when confronted.
1:42 p.m.: A staff member reported that her parked vehicle’s passenger side window was shattered in Lot E-11 on the Edinburg campus. An employee using a grass trimmer accidentally caused the damage, so arrangements were made to repair the window.
3:50 p.m.: A fire alarm was activated at the Stargate Facility near Boca Chica Beach in Brownsville. The Brownsville Fire Department responded and determined the panel was displaying a trouble signal. They later cleared the building for re-entry and the Environmental Health, Safety & Risk Management staff was notified.
April 9
3:04 p.m.: A staff member in the Main Building on the Brownsville campus reported being harassed via phone by a non-affiliated woman.
April 10
9:38 a.m.: A student who previously looked at other students showering in the locker room on April 8 was reported to be at the Health and Physical Education II Building on the Edinburg campus. Officers contacted the student and he was issued a citation on charges of voyeurism and released.
11:22 a.m.: A staff member from the Bursar’s Office reported that she was informed that a counterfeit $100 bill was received by the bank on a university deposit on April 1 on the Edinburg campus.
1:27 p.m.: A student reported the same student from the previous voyeurism case looked at him while showering at the Health and Physical Education II Building on the Edinburg campus. A citation for voyeurism to the student suspect is pending.
April 11
7:45 a.m.: A staff member reported that her non-affiliated ex-boyfriend came to return some personal items at her place of employment on the Brownsville campus. She said she wants no further contact with him. He was issued a criminal trespass warning for UTRGV properties.
9:29 a.m.: A staff member reported that a former employee, now separated from UTRGV, has failed to return a university-issued tablet computer on the agreed date of return at the Clinical Education Building on the Harlingen campus.
12:20 p.m.: A minor traffic accident was reported in Lot E-9 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
April 12
12:27 a.m.: A student’s bike was stolen from a bike rack outside the Engineering Building on the Edinburg campus. The student said the bike was secured at the time of the theft.
