April 12

6:03 a.m.: An active fire alarm was triggered by a heat detector at the Health and Physical Education II building on the Edinburg campus. The building was evacuated and the Edinburg Fire Department responded. The fire department later cleared the building for re-entry.

5:20 p.m.: A staff member reported several letters were received at the Liberal Arts Building North on the Edinburg campus. He believes the letters are related to an ongoing department administrative investigation.

April 13

9:12 a.m.: While conducting a routine traffic stop on a non-affiliated man on West University Boulevard near the Brownsville campus, a warrant for his arrest from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear-possession of a control substance was revealed. After confirmation from the Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched to take custody of the man. He was cited for traffic violations, and the vehicle was released to a passenger.

April 14

6:56 a.m.: A non-affiliated woman reported that her son was missing at Xeriscape Park near the Brownsville campus. The area of campus was searched but he was not found. She later reported via phone call that she had located her son.

April 15

7:40 p.m.: A suspicious man in a parked vehicle exposed himself to a student in Lot E-9 on the Edinburg campus. Officers responded and identified the non-affiliated man. The student did not want to file criminal charges, but the man was issued a criminal trespass warning for UTRGV properties.

April 16

4:34 a.m.: A fire alarm sounded after steam set off a smoke detector in the Biomedical Research and Health Professions building on the Brownsville campus. The Brownsville Fire Department responded. The department later cleared the building for re-entry and Environmental Health & Safety staff was notified.

6:20 a.m.: A suspicious item was discovered by a Facilities employee while trimming the bushes near the UTRGV Chapel area on the Edinburg campus. A perimeter was set up around the chapel, an emergency notification was sent out, and aid was requested from the McAllen Police Department Bomb Response Unit. The item was retrieved and removed from the campus by the unit without incident.     

April 17

9:40 p.m.: A student found unwanted gifts consisting of a stuffed animal and necklace outside her apartment door at Casa Bella Apartments on the Brownsville campus. She does not know who they are from and wanted the incident documented.
