Aug. 22
5:30 p.m.: A staff member reported his parked, unattended vehicle may have sustained damage in Lot E-19 on the Edinburg campus. The vehicle had scratches on the left back bumper but was parked at an off-campus location before he noticed the damage. It is unclear where the damage occurred.
Aug. 23
2:21 p.m.: Two students were involved in a minor vehicle collision in Lot E-19 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported.
2:57 p.m.: Three fraudulent checks were cashed off campus from the University Financial Services building in Edinburg. The checks had UTRGV financial information but were forged.
3:51 p.m.: A non-affiliated patient used vulgar language at the School of Public Health on the Brownsville campus. She became upset over scheduling issues involving an appointment.
6:55 p.m.: A student injured himself while performing stretching exercises in his dorm at Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus. He declined emergency medical services.
Aug. 24
2:12 p.m.: A staff member reported a student’s vehicle with a shattered window in Lot E-38 on the Edinburg campus. After contacting the student and reviewing parking lot cameras, the window appeared to shatter on its own.
Aug. 25
10:05 a.m.: A staff member reported damage to a facility van at the Academic Support Facility on the Edinburg campus. The van was dented and had yellow paint transfer along the right quarter panel. After further investigation, it was revealed that the bollards near the Liberal Arts Building South also had damage with white paint transfer.
Aug. 26
11:46 a.m.: A student’s parked, unattended vehicle sustained damage in Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus. The student reported the damage was caused by a Parking and Transportation employee while removing an immobilization device placed on the rear tire of his vehicle.
1:20 p.m.: An officer responded to a fire alarm at the Child Development Center on the Edinburg campus. The alarm indicated the presence of smoke in the mechanical room. The fire department and Environmental Health and Safety later cleared the building for re-entry.
3:28 p.m.: A student’s parked, unattended vehicle was damaged in Lot E-13 on the Edinburg campus. The rear bumper of the vehicle had signs
of damage.
10:10 p.m.: A resident assistant found narcotics during a health and safety inspection at Troxel Hall on the Edinburg campus. An officer confiscated the found narcotics, which were then submitted for destruction.
Aug. 27
8:59 a.m.: A staff member reported her parked, unattended vehicle may have sustained damage in Lot H-1 on the Harlingen campus. After reviewing the area’s cameras, it was determined the damage did not occur on campus.
2:33 p.m.: A student complained of chest pains at the Academic Services Building on the Edinburg campus. He was transported by EMS to Rio Grande Regional 24-Hour Emergency Care Center.
2:58 p.m.: A staff member reported losing his university-issued MacBook Pro off-campus in Austin. He lost the MacBook during a conference sometime in November 2017. It is unknown at this time if it contained sensitive information.
7:18 p.m.: A student suffered a seizure at the Village Apartments near the Edinburg campus. She was transported by EMS to Edinburg Regional Hospital.
9:33 p.m.: A student at Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus contacted authorities due to concern over his roommate’s whereabouts. Once confirmed with family members, officers deemed the roommate was fine and had voluntarily traveled to Mexico.
