The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between April 21 and 28.
April 21
5:17 p.m.: Officers responded to the Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus in reference to an injury report. A student reported that he dislocated his knee while practicing jiu-jitsu. The student was transported to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance for further medical evaluation.
6:09 p.m.: A University Library Campus Store employee reported a suspicious older man has been visiting the store for the last two to three weeks. The employee said the older man attempts to start “small talk” and stares at the employees, making them feel uncomfortable.
April 23
8:37 a.m.: UTRGV police officers discovered an unknown suspect(s) spray painted a light pole in Lot E-11 next to the School of Medicine building on the Edinburg campus. A review of the camera footage indicated that the markings had been there since early March.
2:28 p.m.: An Edinburg police officer requested assistance from UTRGV police to review camera footage from a university parking lot located near a house that was burglarized recently. Camera footage was reviewed and the information and findings were reported to the Edinburg police officer.
April 24
2:47 a.m.: UTRGV police officers patrolling the Village Apartments on the Edinburg campus came across a male student and female student who were arguing. No assault occurred and both parties agreed to go their separate ways for the remainder of the evening.
5:57 p.m.: UTRGV police officers responded to an active fire alarm in the Engineering Building on the Edinburg campus. The Edinburg Fire Department arrived at the location shortly after and cleared the building for re-entry. When attempting to reset the fire panel, it showed 28 active trouble alarms for the building. A work order was placed to have the panel assessed.
April 25
11:17 a.m.: An employee in the Biomedical Research and Health Building on the Brownsville campus reported he lent two keys to a graduate student who is no longer part of his research group. The employee has tried to get the keys back for over a month with no success.
April 26
2:31 a.m.: Officers responded to the area of lot E-10 in reference to a small fire on a utility pole. The Edinburg Fire Department arrived and determined the fire started by a lightning strike, and the rain appeared to have put out the fire. American Electric Power crews arrived to replace the damaged pole. The fire caused a power outage in the majority of buildings on the north side of campus for several hours.
11:07 a.m.: UTRGV police officers responded to a fire alarm in the Brownsville University Library. The Brownsville Fire Department arrived and deemed the building safe for re-entry. The alarm was set off by a water leak in a mechanical room. Facilities and Environmental Safety & Risk Management were on location to address the issue.
12:18 p.m.: A UTRGV police officer observed a motor vehicle crash on the 700 block of North Sugar Road. It was discovered that the driver at fault did not possess a valid Texas driver’s license and was issued a court appearance citation for no driver’s license. Both parties agreed to handle the damages among themselves.
4:35 p.m.: A female student reported leaving jewelry behind in a restroom in the Interdisciplinary Academic Building on the Brownsville campus. The student returned at a later time and was not able to locate her property.
5:45 p.m.: UTRGV police officers responded to an injury report in the UTRGV Baseball Stadium. A woman reported tripping on the sidewalk, injuring her hand and knee. The woman was treated by Med-Life emergency medical services on scene.
April 27
5:01 p.m.: A student reported losing his vehicle keys at the Student Union on the Edinburg campus.
April 28
1:45 a.m.: An employee reported a personnel issue involving her supervisor at the Marialice Shary Shivers Building on the Edinburg campus.
