Police Reports: Feb. 16-21

The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Feb. 16 and 21.

Feb. 16

10:05 a.m.: A female student reported being sexually assaulted in 2017 by two identified former male students on campus. The case is under investigation.

12:35 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the Science Complex on the Edinburg campus in reference to a student reporting feeling ill due to an insect bite. Emergency medical services arrived and transported the student to the Rio Grande Regional 24 Hour Emergency Care for further evaluation.

12:57 p.m.: A student living in Heritage Hall on the Edinburg campus reported that she heard someone knock on her door on two separate occasions during the early morning hours. No other incidents have been reported and extra patrol has been conducted in the area. 

2:42 p.m.: The Harlingen Fire Department and a UTRGV officer were dispatched to the Clinical Education Building in reference to an active fire alarm. The fire alarm panel indicated the fire alarm was activated by a sprinkler sensor. The fire department cleared the building for reentry and the fire alarm panel was reset.

Feb. 17

8:43 a.m.: A staff member at the UT Health RGV Multispecialty Clinic on the Edinburg campus reported that there was a scratch on the rear passenger door of her vehicle. A report was generated for documentation purposes.

10:57 a.m.: A staff member at the Science Complex on the Edinburg campus turned in a makeup bag that was near a student in a restroom inside the building. While inventorying the items inside the bag, an officer discovered narcotics. The narcotics were tested and submitted for destruction. 

4:04 p.m.: A public safety officer was dispatched to the Edinburg Liberal Arts South building in reference to a female student who had stepped on a nail. The student was subsequently transported to South Texas Health System for further evaluation.

4:35 p.m.: An officer responded to Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus in reference to a non-affiliated man who made contact with a student. An investigation revealed that there was a protective order prohibiting the man from communicating with the woman. The man had left the area before the officer’s arrival. The case is under investigation.

Feb. 18

12:14 a.m.: A staff member reported damage to a window in the Student Services building in Edinburg. It is unknown how the damage occurred. A report was generated for documentation purposes. 

1:16 a.m.: A staff member reported an inappropriate cartoon was drawn on an eraser board in one of the classrooms of the Interdisciplinary Building on the Edinburg campus. A report was generated for documentation purposes.

Feb. 20

1:57 p.m.: The Edinburg Fire Department and a UTRGV officer responded to the Performing Arts Complex in reference to an active fire alarm. A search of the building determined that the alarm had been activated due to smoke machines being utilized on the stage during a performance. The building was deemed safe for reentry.

Feb. 21

9:32 a.m.: A student reported that on Feb. 15, her vehicle sustained minor damage after it was struck while parked  in Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation. 

10:19 a.m.: A faculty member in the Science building on the Edinburg campus reported an unknown individual had turned off a freezer that kept chemicals and species samples. The faculty member reported the samples spoiled due to the freezer being turned off. A report was generated for documentation purposes. 

3:15 p.m.: An officer responded to Lot E-9 on the Edinburg campus in reference to a two-vehicle collision involving students. No injuries were reported, only minor damage to both vehicles.

4:45 p.m.: UTRGV Police detectives are investigating a terroristic threat on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation. 

6:38 p.m.: An officer identified the suspect from a previous report of a violation of protective order on the roadway. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Edinburg campus but the suspect fled in the vehicle. The case is under investigation. 

10:39 p.m.: A student residing in the Heritage Hall dormitory on the Edinburg campus reported several items had been stolen from inside her dorm room. A Timely Warning Notification was generated. The case is under investigation.

Feb. 22

9:52 a.m.: An officer responded to the Liberal Arts South building in Edinburg, in reference to a student suffering from a seizure. Emergency Medical Services arrived at the location and transported the student to Edinburg Regional Hospital for further evaluation.
