The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between July 26 and Aug. 5.
July 26
9:17 a.m.: A staff member reported a broken window on his parked, unattended vehicle in Lot E-5 on the Edinburg campus.
12:19 p.m.: A staff member reported a lost floor dolly in the Science Building on the Edinburg campus.
July 27
12:45 p.m.: A faculty member reported losing six university-issued keys in an off-campus parking lot in Edinburg. The incident occurred in April 2021.
3:43 p.m.: A UTRGV officer responded to a disturbance at the University Library on the Brownville campus. A woman in the area was upset about not being able to find the Registrar’s Office. The officer was able to locate the woman but she was uncooperative and eventually left the area.
July 29
12:17 p.m.: UTRGV Police issued a criminal trespass warning to a non-affiliated man for violating housing rules and regulations at the Casa Bella Apartments on the Brownsville campus.
2:05 p.m.: An officer reported to the Life and Health Science Building in reference to a homeless man panhandling in the area on the Edinburg campus. The man received a criminal trespass warning and left without incident.
2:30 p.m.: A faculty member lost a university-issued key in the Social Work and Occupational Therapy Building on the Edinburg campus.
2:59 p.m.: A staff member in the Research Education Building on the Edinburg campus complained of chest and abdominal pain. She was transported to the local hospital for further treatment by emergency medical services.
July 30
8:02 p.m.: An officer on the Brownsville campus responded to River Levee Road to assist U.S. Border Patrol regarding four individuals who crossed the U.S. border fence illegally. After conducting a search of the area, five non-affiliated individuals were detained between the brush area of Lot B-1 and River Levee Road. The detainees were all from Mexico.
July 31
6:19 p.m.: A fire alarm sounded in the Health Affairs East Building on the Edinburg campus. The fire panel indicated a waterflow detector. The fire department later cleared the building for reentry.
Aug. 2
2:32 p.m.: A university police officer was dispatched to the Blue Wave Car Wash in Edinburg regarding an accident involving a university vehicle. The staff member driving the vehicle reported it was knocked into reverse inside the car wash and struck the vehicle behind her. The university vehicle sustained no damage. The driver of the other vehicle involved claimed there was damage to his vehicle’s front end. A review of the business’ cameras showed the vehicle was already damaged. No injuries were reported.
4:38 p.m.: An officer responded to the UT Health Primary Care Multi Specialty Clinic in Harlingen regarding an angry patient upset about prescription medication. Staff at the clinic were able to calm the patient. The patient left the area before the officer’s arrival.
Aug. 4
8:33 a.m.: A non-affiliated woman slipped and fell after stepping on a curb in front of Building 701, near Lot H-1 on the Harlingen campus. Emergency medical services were requested but she refused medical transport.
3:04 p.m.: A student reported he lost his AirPods’ case Aug. 2 in the Science Building on the Edinburg campus. The student wanted to document the incident.
Aug. 5
4:01 p.m.: A staff member accidentally reversed into a wooden ramp that leads into Portable Building #4 while driving a university vehicle on the Edinburg campus. The ramp sustained minor damage but the vehicle sustained significant damage.
11:08 p.m.: An officer responded to an active fire alarm in the Health Affairs Building East on the Edinburg campus. The fire department later cleared the building for reentry. The alarm was triggered by a water flow issue.
Aug. 6
12:19 p.m.: The Edinburg Fire Department and UTRGV police were dispatched to a dumpster fire outside the Engineering Building on the Edinburg campus. The fire department extinguished the fire. No damage was caused to university property and no signs of arson were detected.
1:23 p.m.: A staff member reported he lost three university-issued keys about two years ago at his off-campus residence. The report was made for documentation purposes.
Aug. 7
5:16 p.m.: UTRGV Police Communications observed, via U.S. border cameras, two subjects jump the U.S. border fence located south of the Interdisciplinary Academic Building on the Brownsville campus. An officer responded to the area and detained three subjects on the sidewalk on University Blvd. U.S. Border Patrol agents arrived and took custody of the individuals without incident.
Aug. 10
3:09 a.m.: A UTRGV police officer, Texas Southmost College security and the Brownsville Fire Department responded to an active fire alarm at the TSC Science Engineering & Technology Building in Brownsville. The alarm panel indicated a water flow problem. A search of the building confirmed there were no signs of fire or smoke in the area. The fire department reset the alarm.
1:31 p.m.: A staff member reversed into a non-affiliated vehicle while driving a university vehicle in Lot B-7 on the Brownsville campus. No injuries were reported, only damage to both vehicles.
4:15 p.m.: A faculty member reported her purse, which contained her university-issued keys, was stolen from inside her vehicle on June 19 at an off-campus location in Edinburg. A burglary of vehicle report was initiated by the Edinburg Police Department.
