Police Reports: Nov. 5-10

The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Nov. 5 and 10.  

Nov. 5

10:57 a.m.: A staff member reported losing university-issued keys on campus. A report was generated for documentation purposes.  

12:54 p.m.: A student reported receiving emails from a faculty member which he found to be unprofessional.  A report was generated for documentation purposes. The incident was referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for review.

3:29 p.m.: A staff member reported losing two university-issued keys at an unknown, off-campus location in 2017. A report was generated for documentation purposes. 

Nov. 6

3:27 a.m.: An officer responded to Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus in reference to a student reporting he had been chased to location by unknown individuals. Upon contacting the student, the officers observed him to be intoxicated, under the influence of alcohol. An investigation confirmed the student had also furnished alcohol to underage students at Unity Hall. The case is under investigation.  

5:39 a.m.: Officers responded to the 900 block of West Chapin in Edinburg in reference to a single-vehicle accident. The driver of the vehicle evaded the officers on foot but was subsequently detained. A female passenger was transported to Edinburg Regional Hospital for injuries she suffered in the accident. The man was arrested on charges of intoxication assault, a third-degree felony, and evading arrest or detention, a Class A misdemeanor. At the Edinburg jail, the man provided a breath specimen allegedly showing he was over the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle.

2:50 p.m.: Officers responded to the soccer field on the Brownsville campus in reference to a call for assistance from the U.S. Border Patrol. Border Patrol agents reported about 20 individuals had possibly entered the soccer field. The agents subsequently apprehended three men from Mexico and a woman from Guatemala without incident.  

Nov. 7

3:38 p.m.: The Edinburg Fire Department and an officer responded to the Dining and Ballroom Complex in reference to an active fire alarm. The fire panel indicated a heat sensor in a room had been activated. The fire department checked the building for fire and smoke but found none. The building was cleared for reentry and the fire panel was reset. 

Nov. 8

1:38 p.m.: A student reported losing a university-issued key at the UT Health Biomedical Research Facility on the Edinburg campus last month. 

2:32 p.m.: A Veterans Affairs employee reported losing her issued key to a Veterans Affairs-leased room in September at an unknown location. 

2:39 p.m.: An officer was waved down in Lot E-12 on the Edinburg campus in reference to a verbal disturbance between a man and woman. It was determined that a faculty member became upset when confronted by the non-affiliated woman about striking her vehicle’s side mirror with his vehicle’s side mirror when he attempted to park in an adjacent space. An investigation revealed there was no property damage, no physical contact or threats made. 

Nov. 9

10:52 a.m.: A student reported observing a man leaning on an unattended vehicle in Lot B-3 on the Brownsville campus. The student reported she asked him if he was OK to which he replied he had been urinating. She confirmed the man did not expose himself to her and left the parking lot without incident. 

Nov. 10

7:58 a.m.: A staff member at Cavalry Hall at the Brownsville campus reported losing three university-issued keys. At noon, the staff member informed the officer that she had located her keys. 

11:32 a.m.: A staff member reported losing his university-assigned portable radio along the Bronc Trail on the Edinburg campus near the Health Affairs West Building on Nov. 4.

12:54 p.m.: A faculty member reported an unknown person created a fictitious social media account using his persona without his consent. The case is under investigation.

12:03 p.m.: A man reported his motorcycle was struck while it was parked in Lot H-4 on the Harlingen campus. The officer reviewed the camera footage and confirmed the accident did not occur on campus.

3:31 p.m.: An officer responded to a three-vehicle accident involving university students in Lot E-26 on the Edinburg campus. No injuries were reported. The vehicles sustained visible damage.

4:02 p.m.: A faculty member reported via the CampusShield application that three female students had reported they had been approached by a suspicious man while studying at the Life and Health Science Building on the Brownsville campus. Contact was not made with the students or the suspicious man due to the faculty member not being able to identify them. A report was generated for documentation purposes. 

8:40 p.m.: A student reported his vehicle was struck while it was parked in Lot E-16 on the Edinburg campus on Nov. 10. The vehicle sustained visible damage. The case is under investigation.
