The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Oct. 1 and 6
Oct. 1
5:12 p.m.: A staff member from the Comptroller’s Office at the Main building on the Brownsville campus reported being $40 over in cash at the end of her money count. The report was generated for documentation purposes.
Oct. 2
8:31 a.m.: An officer responded to a report of an unconscious male in a vehicle parked at a Stripes convenience store off campus in Brownsville. The officer contacted the non-affiliated male driver and confirmed he did not need any medical attention. UTRGV Police Communications notified the officer that the man had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants for driving while intoxicated out of Dewitt County. The warrants were confirmed by the officer who placed the man under arrest and transported him to the Cameron County Jail to await extradition.
12:45 p.m.: An officer, while reversing his police patrol unit, backed into a Cameron County Sheriff’s Office vehicle that was parked at the Cameron County Detention Center in Brownsville. No injuries were reported, only minor damage to the officer’s patrol vehicle.
5:07 p.m.: A student reported receiving an email to his university email account offering him work as a secret shopper. The male then received a check from the company that turned out to be a scam. The student did not suffer any monetary loss. The report was generated for documentation purposes.
Oct. 3
3:59 p.m.: An officer responded to Heritage Hall on the Edinburg campus regarding a welfare concern involving a student. UTRGV officers located the student at an off-campus location and confirmed she was OK.
Oct. 4
7:14 a.m.: An officer was flagged down regarding an individual asleep near the 1200 block of N. Sugar Rd. in Edinburg. Officers arrived at the location and found a non-affiliated male to be intoxicated. The man was placed under arrest on a charge of public intoxication and transported to the Edinburg City Jail.
8:45 a.m.: A staff member reported losing a university-issued key.
9:05 a.m.: A staff member reported a broken window at an office in Cavalry Hall on the Brownsville campus. It is unknown what caused the window to break. Nothing inside was disturbed.
4:44 p.m.: A staff member reported that at the end of her shift at the Bursar’s Office on the Edinburg campus she noticed they were $900.05 over in cash. The report was generated for documentation purposes.
Oct. 5
10:54 p.m.: An officer responded to Unity Hall on the Edinburg campus in reference to three students having panic attacks after consuming edible gummies from a local smoke shop. All three students were transported by emergency medical services to the Rio Grande Regional Hospital 24 Hour Emergency Care. A follow-up at the hospital later revealed all three students were discharged and left the hospital with family members.
Oct. 6
4:43 a.m.: An officer responded to the UT Health RGV Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Clinic in Weslaco in reference to a burglar alarm activation. It was later learned that a Weslaco Police Department officer triggered the alarm when he found the clinic unlocked. The building manager was contacted and reported to the scene. The building was secured, and the alarm was reset.
12:22 p.m.: An officer responded to lot E9 on the Edinburg campus regarding a traffic collision between two vehicles. No injuries were reported.
2:05 p.m.: A male student reported needing a ride to see a Texas Southmost College nurse for an injury he sustained last Tuesday at the TSC Recreation Center. The student was referred to UTRGV shuttle service.
Update: Staff at the Hidalgo County Jail notified University Police on Oct. 6 that a suspect in theft of two bicycles from the Edinburg campus was due to be released on unrelated charges. One bike was stolen July 14 from a bicycle rack outside the Rio Grande Center for Manufacturing Building and the other was taken July 23 from a rack outside the Academic Support Facility Building. University Police Department warrants were executed without incident and the suspect was transported to the Edinburg City Jail pending arraignment on Oct. 7. The bicycles were recovered and returned to the owners.
