The following are among the incidents reported to University Police between Oct. 7 and 14.
Oct. 7
9:41 a.m.: A student reported that his scooter was stolen while it was secured on a bike rack outside the Mathematics and General Classrooms Building on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
10:50 a.m.: A University Police officer responded to a verbal disturbance in Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus. Upon arrival, a female student reported that, during a verbal dispute, a male subject used vulgar language and gestures at her and then left the area. She did not file criminal charges.
Oct. 8
10:25 a.m.: A University Police officer responded to a report of empty alcohol containers found in a restroom in the Student Academic Center on the Edinburg campus.
Oct. 9
7:47 a.m.: A University Police officer responded to a report of a loose dog near the Science Complex on the Edinburg campus. The dog was located and turned over to the city’s animal control.
10:12 a.m.: A University Police officer responded to a report of a needle found on the ground in the University Library on the Edinburg campus. The needle was picked up and disposed of properly in a hazardous material box.
Oct. 10
5:44 p.m.: A University Police officer responded to a report of a student stuck in an elevator in the Music, Science and Learning Center on the Brownsville campus. A Facilities Services employee arrived to assist in opening the elevator doors and the student stated she was fine. The elevator was shut down for repairs.
Oct. 11
3:02 a.m.: University Police officers assisted U.S. Border Patrol agents in the search for several undocumented immigrants near the Brownsville campus. The agents took six individuals into custody.
5:59 a.m.: University Public Safety officers responded to an active fire alarm in the Clinical Education Building on the Harlingen campus. The Harlingen Fire Department arrived on scene and cleared the building for reentry.
7 a.m.: University Public Safety officers responded to an active fire alarm at the Robert and Janet Vackar Football Stadium in Edinburg. The Edinburg Fire Department arrived on scene and determined that a dusty smoke detector had triggered the alarm.
12:24 p.m.: A University Police officer was notified of a low-hanging power line in Lot E-32 on the Edinburg campus. The American Electric Power company was notified and advised that they would address the issue.
Oct.12
2:16 p.m.: A student reported a man followed her to her apartment in Troxel Hall on the Edinburg campus and asked for her contact information, which made her uncomfortable. The student said the man left the area without incident when she declined.
3:22 p.m.: An employee reported his personal information was posted on a bulletin board near the kitchen area in the Dining and Ballroom Complex on the Edinburg campus and wanted to document the incident to prevent identity theft.
8:53 p.m.: A University Police officer responded to a student who reported a male student entered her dorm room without her consent and made an alarming comment toward her in Heritage Hall on the Edinburg campus. The case is under investigation.
Oct. 13
7:36 a.m.: University Police officers observed a large amount of water with oil all over the first floor in the University Center on the Edinburg campus. Facilities Services was contacted and it was determined a circulation pump, which was connected to a water heater, had broken.
Oct. 14
10:29 a.m.: A University Police officer responded to a cat trapped in a sewer drain outside the Academic Services Building on the Edinburg campus. The officer inspected the drain and discovered the cat was no longer there.
