Oct. 6
1:10 p.m.:An officer responded to a suspicious man asking for money at the Math & General Classrooms building on the Edinburg campus. Officers located a man fitting the description at the Stripes convenience store at 1603 W. University Drive. The man was identified and it was determined he had an active arrest warrant out of the Edinburg Police Department for possession of marijuana. The man was also issued a criminal trespass warning from all UTRGV campuses and was transported and booked at the Edinburg Municipal Jail.
Oct. 7
1:14 a.m.: An officer contacted two students sitting on the curb at the Casa Bella Apartments parking lot on the Brownsville campus. One male student was severely intoxicated and was transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center by emergency medical services due to the level of intoxication. In lieu of arrest, the intoxicated student was released to emergency medical services for medical treatment. The student notified his parents.
Oct. 8
10:42 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the Biomedical Research and Health Building in regard to a faint smell of gas being detected. Students were cleared from the room to allow the Brownsville Fire Department to check the area, but no source was found and the area was deemed safe for reoccupation. Facilities was advised and said they would inspect the area.
Oct. 12
2:51 p.m.: UTRGV Police Department detectives received a case referral from Homeland Security Investigations involving a UTRGV email account that was associated with a social media application that reportedly shared videos of child pornography. The case is under investigation.
