Sept. 16
1:16 p.m.: A staff member reported twisting his ankle while walking out of the Academic Support Facilities building on the Edinburg campus. Emergency Medical Services transported the staff member to Edinburg Regional Hospital for further medical evaluation.
Sept. 17
8:58 a.m.: The U.S. Marshals Service requested assistance from a University Police K-9 officer for an explosives sweep at the Iwo Jima Monument in Harlingen before a naturalization ceremony. The sweep was conducted without incident.
2:08 p.m.: A student reported having been sexually assaulted in the Heritage Hall dormitory on the Edinburg campus. The victim identified the subject as a current student. UTRGV detectives detained the subject. The victim declined to prosecute but all
the physical evidence was recovered and will be processed should the
victim choose to prosecute at a later time. The case is being referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities for further review.
9:50 p.m.: An officer made contact with an intoxicated man who was asleep on the side of the road on the 100 block of North Sugar Road in Edinburg. The officer observed the man display symptoms of being intoxicated and emitted a strong odor of alcohol. The officer determined he was a danger to himself due to him being found asleep in the area. The man was placed under arrest for public intoxication and transported to the Edinburg City Jail for booking.
Sept. 18
2:09 p.m.: UTRGV Police Communications observed three men on camera jump the border fence into the Texas Southmost College Physical Plant in Brownsville. An officer and U.S. Border Patrol agents responded to the area. The Border Patrol agents subsequently took custody of the Cuban nationals without incident.
Sept. 19
6:22 a.m.: UTRGV Police Communications observed a man on camera jump the border fence into the Texas Southmost College Physical Plant in Brownsville. An officer and a U.S. Border Patrol agent responded to the area. The Border Patrol agent subsequently took custody of the Mexican national without incident.
Sept. 20
1:14 p.m.: A student reported his bicycle was stolen from the east side bicycle rack at Heritage Hall on the Edinburg campus on Sept. 16. The case is under investigation.
Sept. 21
7:37 a.m.: A nurse at the Veterans Affairs Clinic in Harlingen reported she was assaulted by an elderly patient on Sept. 20. The nurse reported she was struck on her thigh by a
finger oximeter the patient threw at her. The case is under investigation.
6:23 p.m.: An officer responded to the Performing Arts Complex in Edinburg in reference to a group of individuals skateboarding at the southwest entrance. The officer made contact with one individual due to the others having left the area before the officer’s arrival. The officer identified the man and issued him a criminal trespass warning.
Sept. 22
3:42 p.m.: A student reported having been sexually assaulted between 2 and 3 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Heritage Hall dormitory on the Edinburg campus. The suspect has been identified as a current student. A Timely Warning Notification mass email was sent about the incident Sept. 22.
