Sept. 22
6:56 a.m.: UTRGV police officers were dispatched to the construction site in Lot B-1 on the Brownsville campus regarding five nonaffiliated men climbing the U.S. border fence. The officers located three men and the U.S. Border Patrol located the other two. All five men were found to be Mexican nationals and were taken into custody by the Border Patrol.
10:22 a.m.: An employee reported that an ex-employee with whom she no longer wanted contact was at the UTRGV Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. Officers contacted and identified the non-affiliated man outside the University Recreation Center and issued a criminal trespass warning prohibiting him from coming onto all UTRGV property.
1:56 p.m.: An employee reported that a non-affiliated man who was issued a criminal trespass warning earlier in the day had returned and was in the University Recreation Center on the Edinburg campus. The area was checked for the man, who was not located. The case is under investigation.
7:28 p.m.: A UTRGV student reported that he met an unidentified woman through Snapchat and, during their conversation, was asked to send an intimate video of himself, which he did. Afterward, the woman threatened to release his video on social media if he did not send her $800. The case is under investigation.
Sept. 24
11:06 p.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for disregarding a traffic control device at 10th Avenue and Cano Street in Edinburg. Upon speaking with the driver, an odor of marijuana was detected coming from inside the vehicle. The officer told the driver a search would be conducted, at which point he fled the scene in his vehicle. The officer did not pursue, and the Edinburg Police Department was advised of the fleeing vehicle. The case is under investigation.
Sept. 26
5:43 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the construction area of the Interdisciplinary Academic Building on the Brownsville campus after the UTRGV Police Department dispatch observed via surveillance cameras eight subjects crossing over the border fence. All eight subjects were apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol.
