UTRGV Athletics announced March 25, baseball season ticket holders will have the opportunity to choose from three options following the cancellation of the remaining 16 home games.
Fans may choose to donate the remaining balance to the V Club, receive credit toward the 2021 baseball season or receive a refund.
“We’ve asked all of our season ticket holders to respond through an online form that we created,” said Deputy Director of Athletics and Chief Revenue Officer Vince Volpe. “That way we have documentation of which way they would like to go.”
Those who opt to donate toward Athletics will not only become donors, but will also receive a thank you letter and tax deduction statement for their 2020 taxes.
Season ticket holders who paid a balance of $125 for 29 games will receive a credit of $69, while suite and corral holders will also receive a 50% credit toward their 2021 donations.
Volpe said almost half of the season ticket holders have been reached, so far.
“In the last six days, we’ve had half of our season ticket holders respond, and it’s a little bit of a mixed bag in all of the responses,” he said. “Ten or 11 have chosen the donation route, six or seven have chosen the [credit] route and six or seven have chosen the refund.”
Despite Athletics’ decision, Volpe does encourage members, fans and the rest of the community to keep rallying the Rio Grande Valley during Vaquero home games.
“Our motto and our tagline over the last seven months has been ‘Rally the Valley,’ and that’s really what we’re trying to do: unite the Valley around its only Division I athletic department,” he said. “And we’re only gonna be as good as the amount of people that we have helping us pull in the same direction. … Whether they’re buying a season ticket, whether they’re becoming a corporate partner or a donor, whether they’re wearing our V logo on the polo T-shirt or hat … they’re so many touch points that help us Rally the Valley.”
