The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Volleyball Team lost 0-3 (22-25, 21-25, 12-25) against the Kansas City Roos tonight at the UTRGV Fieldhouse in Edinburg.
Vaquera freshman outside hitter Victoria Nama led the team with 10 kills on .400 hitting and four blocks.
With a close first and second set, the Vaqueras fought hard to come back but struggled at the end.
University of Missouri-Kansas City Head Coach Christi Posey was excited with the results.
“We’re obviously excited about winning,” Posey said. “I think we caught [UTRGV] in a little bit of a hot spot. Sometimes teams can’t take advantage of that and I felt like our team was able to do that tonight.”
UTRGV Head Coach Todd Lowery also felt the team has not been at their best lately.
“We just made mistakes at the biggest moments,” Lowery said. “Not very good volleyball. We gave away 38, so over half their points came from our mistakes. We gotta find a way to clean that up.”
Despite the score, Lowery enjoyed the teamwork his team showed tonight.
“Emotionally, we played pretty well, probably as good as we played as a team,” he said. “I thought they played together.”
UTRGV returns at 7 p.m. Friday at the Fieldhouse for their home finale against Chicago State University.
