Vaccine sites and schedules: Hidalgo County reports backlog

UTRGV reported 14 new COVID-19 cases between Feb. 25 and March 3, according to a university official.

Doug Arney, vice president for Administrative Support Services and chair of the Infectious Disease Committee at UTRGV, said among the 14 were six students, six staff and two faculty members.

UTRGV updates the number of cases reported for campus individuals weekly through the Confirmed Cases Dashboard. The university COVID-19 Response Team provides the numbers on its website.

Arney said one of the six students was in on-campus isolation housing the week of Feb. 25 to March 3.

Hidalgo and Cameron counties continue to report COVID-19 cases.

 On March 4, Hidalgo County reported 22,404 cases, including those on backlog. The county also reported 5,487 cases between Saturday and Thursday, raising its total to 193,947, according to its website.

The county reported 28 deaths between March 4 and Thursday, raising its death toll to 3,842.

Hidalgo County announced in a Tweet Monday that COVID-19 vaccination services will be available from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday until March 29 in the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library located at 1906 S. Closner Blvd. in Edinburg.

The site will provide first, second and third doses of the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines.

Vaccines are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

The City of Edinburg will also host a second vaccination clinic in collaboration with Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR) Health.

Vaccination services will be available from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Edinburg Activity Center located at 123 E. Mark S. Peña Drive in Edinburg.

Individuals must bring a vaccination card to receive a second or third dose.

Cameron County reported 301 cases between March 3 and Wednesday, raising its total to 73,065 cases, according to its website.

The county reported 18 deaths between March 3 and Wednesday, raising the county’s death toll to 2,199.

Free vaccination services will be available in the San Benito Public Health Clinic located at 1390 W. Expressway 83 in San Benito and the Mary P. Lucio Health Clinic located at 1204 Jose Colunga Jr. Street in Brownsville according to the following schedule:

–8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

–8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

–8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays.

Services will also be available from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Harlingen Public Health Clinic located at 711 N. L Street in Harlingen and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays in the Father Joseph O’Brien Health Clinic located at 142 Champion Drive in Port Isabel.

Vaccine recipients must be 12 years or older. No identification or documents are required.
