Vaqueros end losing streak

The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley Men’s Basketball Team ended its five-game losing streak tonight against the University of Missouri-Kansas City, defeating the Roos 76-64.

Throughout the first half, Kansas City maintained the lead, but as the game progressed UTRGV was able to overcome the difference.

“We got to get them off the glass,” Missouri-Kansas City Basketball Head Coach Billy Donlon said during halftime. “They’re killing us on the glass, they’re running it down our throats, they’re playing harder and tougher. We’ll lose this game if we don’t play harder and tougher than them.”

After the second half, UTRGV had complete control of the game.

Hitting double digits in tonight’s game, UTRGV graduate student guard Jordan Jackson understands the importance to lead by example.

“You know, at this point, we just have to lead … vocally, emotionally and physically,” Jackson said. “Everything we have to [do is] make sure everybody’s minds are in it.

UTRGV Men’s Basketball Head Coach Lew Hill was satisfied with his team’s performance and continues to win the rest of the games.

“I hope we win the rest of the games,” Hill said. “This was a good day, good momentum, like I told you, this was a must win for us today. We could not lose the game.”

The Vaqueros are now 5-10 overall. They will face Chicago State University at 7 p.m. Saturday in the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
