UTRGV men’s soccer will play host to professional squad Houston Dynamo at 6 p.m. Saturday at the RGV-FC practice field in Edinburg.
It marks the first meeting between UTRGV and a Major League Soccer team. The match will be 60 minutes in length. The Dynamo will go on to play RGV-FC following the match, as part of their preseason schedule.
Vaqueros Head Coach Paul Leese said in a news release that the match against the professional club is great for development.
“It’s absolutely fantastic to be playing the Dynamo,” Leese said. “We need to develop our players at the highest level possible. That means they need to see the highest level of competition possible. For us to be on the same pitch, competing against MLS players, just speeds up the process within our team. It also gives our players a good barometer of the level they’re trying to reach.”
UTRGV has played against a professional team twice before, the RGV-FC Toros, who are the Dynamo’s minor league affiliate.
The field is located at 1616 S. Raul Longoria Rd. in Edinburg.
