“He’s winning the election and unless something happens in the court, he’s going to be sworn into office on Jan. 1,” Remi Garza, Cameron County elections administrator, said about Yzaguirre.
BISD board of trustees
Four positions were decided in the Brownsville Independent School District board of trustees election.

“In Cameron County, we’ve never seen this number of people come to the polls or as a representation of our overall registered voters; it’s been historic,” Garza said. “We figured that we were going to see more activity in the polls, so we kinda looked at where our high-water marks were from previous elections and then just factored in an additional number of voters.”
Garza said he hopes this trend continues for future elections.
“We’re hoping it’s a trend that continues. It’s really surprising to see, you know, that many people participate when in other elections we’re sitting at 1 or 2 percent. It’s really kind of sad on those, but this is very, very heartening.”
